Annual Report
January 2002
Facilities Committee Purpose:
-
Provide long range planning and goal setting related to the St. Louis Parish and School campus
consisting of 10 structures valued at over $10 million dollars; four are historic buildings from
the 1800's
-
Help manage and implement
operational activities through team-based events such as "Work
Days," or individual volunteer activities based on carpentry, computers, electrical, etc. skills.

Areas impacted include:
Heating: Plumbing., Air Conditioning, Lighting,
Roofing, Painting, Parking,
Landscaping, Grounds keeping, Slgnage, Windows, Masonry, Fire Detection, Carpentry, Wiring
for computer networks, Logistics and Operations.
Major
Accomplishments:

Long Range Facilities Planning: Based on a 1999 Engineering Baseline Report, we continue to plan
systematically for maintenance activities of all types for the major physical structures on the
campus. Yearly expenditures are typically in the $275,000 range.

Church Expansion Campaign: Throughout the renovation planning and operations phases,
Committee members provided substantial assistance to Sally Schrecker in her leadership role.
Assistance included: Design & plan review; in-process inspections of renovation and new
construction; resolution of concerns; clean-up and break-down from weekend use of the Church;
hands-on assistance with finishing work; and parking planning and "live" parking crews.

Lighting and Signage: In a on-going initiative to make the campus safer and easier to navigate,
especially at night, the committee has completed a campus-wide exterior signage program.
Having obtained further Village approvals, we are in the midst of implementing new lighting on
the campus. The interior signage and numbering system is being be brought into the new
building for clarity in locating meetings and for emergency purposes.

Fall Clean Up: We sponsors periodic St. Louis "Work Days" where leaves are raked, shrubbery
trimmed, grounds are maintained, plants are planted, hardware is moved. Turn out for the Fall
2001 events was outstanding.

Repair to Church Tower and
Bells: Planned prior to Renovation project, has been completed.

New Fire Detection Systems: Installed in the three existing school buildings and in the new
addition.

Significant repair work on the Manse, a Village landmark, completed. Included:
Chimney and other masonry repair, new roofing, fire detection. There is more to be done.
Planned Upcoming Activities :

Church Expansion Project
Completion: Includes Parking guide, Painting, Fountain installation,
Landscaping, Signage, Shelving and other Furnishings etc.).

Repair of Manse
Exterior: Includes front porch and other woodwork, masonry around front
steps, new windows, landscaping, etc.

Exterior Painting of Reddington Hall and Saints Place (46 South Main Street).

Elementary School
Flooring: Replacement of carpet in classrooms with tiled flooring.

Spring Work Day for
Playground Sealing and Future Playground Replacement Planning.

Safety Plan Review and Action Planning for emergencies: In accord with Diocesan initiative, the
Committee will be helping to solidify and document safety planning, procedures and training for
staff and program leaders and assuring that our physical plant is compliant with our safety plan.
Who Should Join?

Administrators and planners.

Individuals with specific facilities skills (electrical, carpentry, computer network, heating,
landscaping, etc).

People who want to contribute hands-on to the upkeep and operations of the School and Church
Campus (raking, shoveling, parking assistance, cleaning, setting up for events, moving
furnishings).
Meeting Times:
Committee Planning Meetings --Second to last Thursday of the Month from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM
not including Lent and Summer (see Bulletin). Work Days Scheduled on Saturdays in Fall, Spring
and Summer.
